Why commission a portrait?
A portrait is a great gift for a boyfriend/girlfriend, parents, grandparents, friends. A portrait of your children is a wonderful gift to their grandparents. A portrait of an engaged, newly wed or married couple is a beautiful gift. Portraits are wonderful wedding presents for any occasion.
Even though most of my portraits are created from photographs provided by the client, the end result is eye-catching. A portrait livens up any room, I will create a portrait for you that will really stand out.
Do you have a photo of you and a loved one where you both look great but want to change the background? A photo where everything is perfect except the monster zit on your chin? Did the lighting in a photo make your skin complexion come out weird? I can take care of those problems! Do you have an old worn black and white photograph of a grandparent that you'd like enlarged and colorized? I can do that!
What kinds of portraits do you make?
My preferred mediums are pencil and colored pencil. I can also create portraits from charcoal, pastels and oil pastels. I can make some very pretty digital photo-manipulations (see my self-portrait). I'm practicing with a couple other mediums but I'm not ready to professionally use them yet.
Why are the styles so different?
My biggest concern when creating a portrait is ensuring it reflects the subject. The portrait below was a gift for a friend and her husband; they are an energetic young couple and into underground and contemporary culture so used their favorite colors to try and show that.
When you commission a portrait with me we will discuss the type and style of portrait to make sure the finished portrait is what you want. I can make your portrait photo-realistic, mono or sepia toned, or even pop-art.
